Opposition candidate criticizes victory claim

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that “Civil Contract is forming the government on its own” and has won the election is unconstitutional and exceeds the prime minister’s powers, said Arman Tatoyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the Wings of Unity party.

Pashinyan made the statement during the night of June 8 at his election headquarters.

“The head of government has no authority to make a statement and declare his sole victory when only a little more than 10% of the voting results had been counted and when even 10% of the results from Yerevan had not been summarized. Moreover, the results from polling stations in Yerevan were still unavailable at that time. All updates were changing irregularly, and it was unclear how frequently they were being issued. Furthermore, the figures were periodically decreasing and increasing.

Under these circumstances, he is speaking about holding various opposition leaders accountable. The prime minister does not possess such authority. This is a gross violation of the law.

We consider Nikol Pashinyan’s statement to be an openly unlawful attempt to influence the Central Electoral Commission with the aim of affecting the election results, and such an act is punishable under criminal law,” the statement said.

According to the results of the National Assembly elections, four political forces will be represented in the new parliament: the Civil Contract party, the Strong Armenia Alliance, the Armenia Alliance, and the Prosperous Armenia Party. The mandates will be distributed as follows: Civil Contract — 61 seats, Strong Armenia Alliance — 28 seats, Armenia Alliance — 11 seats, and Prosperous Armenia Party — 5 seats.
