Government to subsidize agricultural exports

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government is preparing a new support program for exporters of agricultural and processed products, offering compensation for a range of goods including fruit, wine, brandy and mineral water.

At a government meeting, Deputy Economy Minister Arman Khojoyan presented a draft decision aimed at encouraging exports of apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines, cherries, mineral water, wine and brandy.

Khojoyan noted that the initiative is a continuation of a program approved last week, which provided state support for the export of greenhouse products such as fresh tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and flowers, according to Factor.am .

The new measure is intended to help diversify export markets and establish new supply chains.

Under the proposal, businesses that exported products during June will receive compensation as follows:

• 200 drams per kilogram of apricots
• 250 drams per kilogram of plums
• 250 drams per kilogram of peaches
• 250 drams per kilogram of nectarines
• 400 drams per kilogram of cherries
• 350 drams per liter of bottled grape wine
• 830 drams per absolute liter of bottled brandy
• 150 drams per liter of mineral water

To qualify for assistance, exporters must apply to the Ministry of Economy after completing exports and submit the required documentation.

Russia has imposed restrictions on imports of Armenian products. In particular, imports of Jermuk mineral water, flowers and certain alcoholic beverages from Armenia have been banned. Restrictions have also been applied to a number of agricultural products, including tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries. Since June 2, Russia has restricted imports and transit to other Eurasian Economic Union countries of cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, grapes and other stone fruits from Armenia. Since June 3, Russia has also limited imports of eggplants, potatoes and dried fruits originating from Armenia.
