Armenian minister to discuss trade restrictions

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan has announced in the National Assembly that he tentatively plans to make one or two visits to Russia in June and July to participate in various events.

According to the minister, meetings with two different partners are scheduled during those visits, and discussions will focus on problems related to the export of products of Armenian origin, Sputnik Armenia reports.

“I believe these issues will be resolved, and they are not the kind of issues that can create tensions,” the minister assured.

On June 11, it became known that Rosselkhoznadzor had restricted, from June 12, the import into Russia of all goods from Armenia subject to quarantine control, as well as their transit through Russian territory to other Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states. The restriction will remain in force until a special mechanism is developed to ensure the safety and traceability of shipped products.

Since May 22, Rosselkhoznadzor has temporarily restricted imports of flower products from Armenia to Russia. Beginning May 30, the agency imposed temporary restrictions on imports of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs and strawberries from Armenia. From June 2, imports of stone fruits and grapes from Armenia were also restricted, while from July 3 restrictions are scheduled to apply to imports of apples, eggplants, potatoes and dried fruits.
