Kallas says EU must support Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Measures to support Armenia will also be discussed during the meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said ahead of the session.

She added that the EU has observed growing pressure from Russia, Factor.am reports.

“First, we will begin with a working breakfast on Armenia. Armenia’s foreign minister will join us. They have just held elections, and we have seen really increasing pressure from Russia to change their course. That is why we need to support them so they can remain resilient. This is also why we are discussing with the minister what more we can do to help them on their path,” Kallas said.

Earlier, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan is participating in discussions in Luxembourg held within the format of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

The European Union will provide Armenia with €50 million in immediate assistance, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced. She said she held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during which they discussed restrictions imposed by Russia on Armenia.

According to von der Leyen, following Russia’s restrictions on flower imports from Armenia, a new export route has already been arranged. The first shipment of 10,000 flowers was expected to arrive in Latvia on June 5, with additional deliveries to follow.
