Armenian MPs may receive updated oath text

PanARMENIAN.Net - The text of the oath taken by National Assembly deputies will be changed, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has announced while presenting several legislative initiatives that the eighth convocation of parliament still intends to adopt.

“It will become much more aligned with today’s reality, today’s state, and our legislation. It will reflect values characteristic of the Armenian people and important to them,” he said.

Simonyan also proposed making it mandatory to install the Armenian national flag at the entrances to all settlements, noting that the idea emerged during the election campaign.

“This initiative will also be brought to the National Assembly agenda and put to a vote,” he said.

He further proposed increasing penalties for giving and receiving election bribes. Under the draft legislation, these offenses could be punishable by up to 10 years and up to 9 years in prison, respectively.
