Hayastan bloc says Kocharyan has no reason to “flee”![]() June 16, 2026 - 11:15 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Hayastan Alliance, commenting on discussions surrounding a travel restriction imposed on Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, said that a person who knowingly returned despite the risk of detention would hardly have any reason to “flee.” The statement was released by the alliance. The alliance also noted that people may hold different political views and may disagree with him, but facts remain facts. “Over the past few days, many rushed to circulate and discuss information claiming that Robert Kocharyan intended to leave Armenia but was not allowed to depart the country. Moreover, some even began speaking about a possible ‘escape.’ However, memories are sometimes worth refreshing. We are talking about the same person who, years ago, fully aware that detention, criminal prosecution, and political pressure awaited him upon returning to Armenia, nevertheless announced his return and came back to the country. A person who consciously returned from freedom to the risk of detention would hardly need to ‘flee’ today. People may have different political views and may disagree with him, but facts remain facts. At times, political hostility causes people to forget even events that occurred in plain sight of everyone. What is regrettable is that part of our society often finds it easier to rejoice in a person’s difficulties than in the country’s successes. And that is already a matter not only of politics, but also of public mentality. It is precisely to change that mindset and to help build a more aware, fair, and demanding society that our struggle continues,” the statement said. Kocharyan’s office had previously announced that he planned to leave the country for three days for personal reasons. However, he was reportedly not allowed to depart Armenia at Zvartnots Airport, without any explanation being provided. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
