Rubinyan says opposition “should have been revoked”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan has stated that, due to allegations of vote-buying, the electoral registrations of Strong Armenia, the Hayastan Alliance, and the Prosperous Armenia Party should have been revoked from the outset, Armenpress reports.

Responding to a question about whether the ruling Civil Contract party intends to challenge the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections before the Constitutional Court, Rubinyan replied:

“No, because the parliamentary majority is legitimate, the votes we received are legitimate, and we will form the government.”

It was noted that throughout the election campaign, Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee repeatedly reported uncovering alleged vote-buying cases involving representatives of the Strong Armenia alliance, the Hayastan Alliance and the Prosperous Armenia Party, while also publishing audio recordings that it said supported those claims.

On June 14, the Central Electoral Commission finalized the results of Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections. According to the results, three political forces entered parliament. The Civil Contract party won 64 seats, the Strong Armenia alliance secured 29 seats, and the Hayastan Alliance received 12 seats.
