PPA to challenge election results in court![]() June 18, 2026 - 18:27 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Prosperous Armenia Party (PPA) will appeal to Armenia’s Constitutional Court, demanding a repeat vote at three polling stations and challenging the relevant decisions of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). The announcement was made on Facebook by PPA spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan. “The election result is determined by the people, not by Vahagn Hovakimyan with his pen,” Tonoyan wrote. Responding to questions about the party’s legal actions, she stated that following the June 7 parliamentary elections, the Prosperous Armenia Party had clearly received enough votes to pass the threshold required for representation in the National Assembly. According to Tonoyan, the Central Electoral Commission subsequently adopted what she described as an unlawful decision to invalidate the voting results at three polling stations, which, in her view, artificially deprived the party of parliamentary representation. She further argued that the CEC later failed to organize a repeat vote in those polling stations, despite legal requirements, thereby violating both the rule of law and citizens’ electoral rights. “We have repeatedly stated, and reaffirm today, that this is not merely a matter of protecting the interests of the Prosperous Armenia Party. This is a struggle to restore justice. A repeat vote must be held at those three polling stations so that citizens’ will can be fully expressed and every vote receives its legal significance,” Tonoyan said. She added that it is unacceptable that more than 3,000 citizens were allegedly deprived of the opportunity to have their votes reflected in the final outcome. “The voter determines which political forces should be represented in parliament, and no administrative or political decision can replace the will of the people. Election results are decided by the people, not by Vahagn Hovakimyan with his pen,” the statement reads. Tonoyan stressed that the Prosperous Armenia Party intends to use all available legal mechanisms and procedures to restore what it considers violated electoral rights. “We reaffirm that in this struggle to restore justice we will continue to act consistently, on principle and exclusively through legal means. Justice must be restored, and every citizen’s vote must be respected. This is not only a PPA issue but a struggle for justice and legality,” she wrote. Late on June 11, the Central Electoral Commission decided to invalidate the results at polling stations No. 10/51 and No. 35/65. As a result, PPA lost a total of 213 votes, reducing its chances of surpassing the 4 percent threshold required to enter parliament. Final results of the June 7 parliamentary elections were published on June 14. The ruling Civil Contract received 726,819 votes, or 49.7456 percent. Strong Armenia received 340,006 votes, or 23.2710 percent, while the Hayastan Alliance secured 144,983 votes, or 9.9231 percent. The Prosperous Armenia Party received 58,287 votes, or 3.9893 percent, falling short of the 4 percent threshold and therefore failing to enter parliament. Civil Contract will hold 64 seats, including three reserved for national minority representatives. Strong Armenia will have 29 seats, including one Assyrian representative, while the Hayastan Alliance will receive 12 seats. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
