Archbishop Bagrat’s house arrest extended by 3 months![]() June 18, 2026 - 18:52 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The term of house arrest imposed on Bagrat Galstanyan, a defendant in the Sacred Struggle case, has been extended by three months. The decision was issued by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction under the chairmanship of Judge Karen Farkhoyan. According to Sputnik Armenia, prosecutors argued in their motion that Galstanyan’s position and influence in society provide reasonable grounds to believe that, if released, he could engage in actions that might obstruct the investigation. Defense attorney Hovhannes Khudoyan responded that it is impossible to obstruct something whose details remain unknown. Khudoyan also petitioned the court to allow the archbishop to attend Sunday liturgies at the Mother Cathedral, a request that the judge approved. For his part, the archbishop stated that he and his supporters are not terrorists but rather “counter-terrorists.” “The fact that we are not terrorists is beyond dispute. Even if we had wanted to be, we could not have been. It is not we who are terrorized, but the authorities who are frightened,” he said. Archbishop Bagrat was arrested during the night of June 26, 2025. According to Armenia’s Investigative Committee, participants and leaders of the Sacred Struggle movement had allegedly planned to carry out terrorist acts and actions aimed at seizing power in Armenia. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
