Armenian runner claims gold at Balkan Championships

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Yervand Mkrtchyan won a gold medal at the Balkan Athletics Championships in Volos, Greece, while also setting a new national record.

During the competition, held on June 20–21, Mkrtchyan completed the 3,000-meter race in 7:52.75, finishing first and establishing a new Armenian record, according to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sportс.

Another Armenian athlete, Razmik Ghazaryan, delivered a strong performance in the triple jump, earning a silver medal with a result of 16.20 meters.

Armenia’s national team at the Balkan Championships also included Levon Aghasyan (triple jump), Vahe Arzumanyan (long jump), Aram Aramyan (400-meter hurdles) and Ellada Alaverdyan (800 meters).

Just two days before competing in Greece, Mkrtchyan also won the 1,500-meter event at an international tournament in France, recording a time of 3:38.99.
