Missing persons law provisions discussed at NSS

PanARMENIAN.Net - A new law concerning missing persons was discussed during a regular meeting of the interagency commission dealing with prisoners of war, hostages, and missing (whereabouts unknown) persons at Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS).

Commission Chairman and NSS Director Andranik Simonyan presented the key issues identified at the previous meeting, as well as the progress made in implementing instructions issued to address them.

Participants reviewed the legal provisions of the Armenian law “On Persons Missing Under Conditions and Circumstances Created by Military Operations,” which entered into force on May 1, 2026. The importance of the legislation for the systematic regulation of issues related to missing persons was emphasized, along with organizational measures aimed at its implementation.

The meeting also addressed matters related to coordinating work among various state agencies and interested institutions. As a result of the discussions, relevant instructions were issued, and the main directions for organizing future work were defined.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the issue of citizens being held in captivity was also discussed during a meeting in Dilijan between Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan and Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan.
