Court rejects bid to jail Goris mayor

PanARMENIAN.Net - Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan will not be sent to prison. On June 23, the Anti-Corruption Court, presided over by Judge Tigran Davtyan, retired to deliberate on a request concerning the modification of the sentence imposed on Arushanyan.

According to the decision published on June 24, the court rejected the motion submitted by the head of the Syunik regional office of the Probation Service, Aysor.am reported.

Specifically, the motion proposed replacing Arushanyan’s existing punishment — deprivation of the right to hold the position of head of a local self-government body — with imprisonment.

The request also sought to revoke the earlier decision to suspend the execution of a prison sentence and to send Arushanyan to serve that sentence.
