According to the report, the purpose of the Armenia visit is to demonstrate Brussels' support for the country amid political pressure from Russia. Reuters also noted that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has set the goal of moving toward European Union membership, was re-elected on June 7 despite assessments by international observers that the electoral process was accompanied by overt Russian interference and pressure. Moscow, in turn, accused Western countries of interfering in the election in support of Pashinyan. Earlier, Politico reported that von der Leyen would visit Armenia next week and that EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos would be part of the delegation. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has confirmed earlier reports that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Armenia in the near future. He said the agenda of the visit will include exports of Armenian agricultural products to the European Union.
