ANCA opposes F-110 engine sale to Turkey

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has joined Greek American organizations and a bipartisan group in the U.S. Congress in an effort to block the sale of more than $700 million worth of General Electric F-110 fighter jet engines to Turkey.

The engines are intended for Turkey's next-generation KAAN combat aircraft, Pastinfo reported.

ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian said that arming President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan does not mean defending an ally but rather equipping and encouraging an adversary to attack America's friends.

The U.S. administration formally notified Congress of the proposed sale on June 24, 2026, giving lawmakers 15 days to block the transaction.

ANCA is urging Armenian Americans to contact their representatives in support of two initiatives introduced by Congresswoman Dina Titus.

The first is a joint resolution of disapproval aimed at completely blocking the sale of F-110 engines to Turkey. The second is a letter to House leadership calling for measures to prevent Turkey's return to the F-35 program.

Representatives Dina Titus, Chris Pappas, Josh Gottheimer, Nicole Malliotakis, Mike Lawler and Frank Pallone criticized the administration's decision, saying that providing advanced U.S. military technology to Turkey contradicts American law and regional security interests.

The initiative's authors also highlighted Turkey's destabilizing actions in the region, including its support for Azerbaijan's military campaigns against Armenia.

Turkey was removed from the F-35 program in 2019 after acquiring the Russian S-400 air defense system. U.S. law continues to prohibit the transfer of F-35 aircraft to Turkey as long as Ankara retains the system.
