Ruling party picks deputy speaker candidates

PanARMENIAN.Net - Hayk Konjoryan and Vahagn Aleksanyan have been selected as candidates for the posts of deputy speakers of parliament.

The decision became known after a meeting of the board of the Civil Contract party. Speaking to reporters afterward, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the nominations, Aysor.am reported.

The contenders for the deputy speaker positions were Hayk Konjoryan, Vahagn Aleksanyan, Arman Yeghoyan, Arusyak Julhakyan, and Alkhas Ghazaryan.

The Civil Contract board also approved Ruben Rubinyan's candidacy for the post of Speaker of the National Assembly.

On June 14, the final results of the June 7 parliamentary election were published. Civil Contract received 726,819 votes, or 49.7456%, Strong Armenia won 340,006 votes, or 23.2710%, while the Hayastan Alliance secured 144,983 votes, or 9.9231%. The Prosperous Armenia Party failed to pass the 4% electoral threshold, receiving 58,287 votes, or 3.9893%, and will not enter parliament.

Civil Contract will hold 64 seats, including three allocated to representatives of national minorities. The Strong Armenia Party will receive 29 seats, including one reserved for an Assyrian representative, while the Hayastan Alliance will hold 12 seats.
