Petrosyan says ENA to gain public interest status![]() June 30, 2026 - 14:21 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government is expected to adopt a decision in mid-July declaring the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) a project of overriding public interest. Romanos Petrosyan, the temporary manager of ENA, made the announcement on June 29 after a meeting of the Civil Contract party board, Aysor.am reported. "The company may be transferred to concession management, and the concessionaire could also make investments there," he said. It was previously announced that the public consultation period for the draft decision would continue until July 8. On May 8, it became known that the government had offered ENA owner Samvel Karapetyan's family $380,000 for the company. Karapetyan considered the proposed amount unacceptable, and negotiations did not take place. On July 3, 2025, Armenia's National Assembly approved in the second and final reading amendments to the laws "On the Public Services Regulatory Authority" and "On Energy" by a vote of 65 in favor, 27 against and no abstentions. The legislative package is widely referred to as the ENA nationalization bill. Karapetyan acquired the company in 2016 at the request of the previous government and invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its modernization. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
