Papoyan links fuel prices to global inflation

PanARMENIAN.Net - There is no cheap gasoline anywhere in the world because global fuel prices have risen sharply, while prices in Armenia have increased by only 10–20%, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said.

He added that one positive outcome is that Armenia has already diversified its fuel import supply chain, according to Factor.am .

"When the crisis involving Iran began and gasoline prices doubled globally, prices in Armenia rose by only 5–10% because we had started importing from a country we had not previously sourced from. As a result of our actions, citizens have been benefiting from much more affordable gasoline for months.

At the moment, we have no shortage problem. There is no cheap gasoline in the world because prices have increased two to two-and-a-half times, while in Armenia the increase has been only 10–20%," Papoyan said.

Since December 2025, Armenia has been importing gasoline of Azerbaijani origin via Georgia. Earlier, Armenia's State Revenue Committee reported that between December 2025 and April 15, 2026, a total of 9,337 tonnes of Azerbaijani fuel worth $7.2 million were imported into Armenia by rail through Georgia. The shipments included 5,398 tonnes of diesel fuel valued at $4.3 million and 3,939 tonnes of gasoline valued at $2.9 million.
