Armenia joins UN Peacebuilding session

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia, participating for the first time as a member of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, took part in the commission's annual session, where Armenia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, underscored the importance of peacebuilding, conflict prevention and international cooperation in achieving lasting peace, according to Armenia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Hovhannisyan said the UN Peacebuilding Commission has become an important platform for dialogue, building partnerships and coordinating policies. He noted that the parallel resolutions adopted last year by the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council on the Peacebuilding Architecture Review emphasize the importance of prevention, national ownership, inclusiveness and integrated approaches to sustaining peace.

The ambassador also described the Peacebuilding Commission as a vital bridge between the UN Security Council, the UN Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly, helping connect the agendas of peace and security, development and human rights.
