Border road overhaul remains at planning stage![]() July 4, 2026 - 13:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The reconstruction project for the local Khnatsakh-Vaghatur road in Armenia's border region of Syunik remains at the design stage, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure said, according to Sputnik Armenia. "The reconstruction of the Khnatsakh-Vaghatur local road section is currently in the project development phase," the ministry said. In 2025, repairs were completed on the road connecting Goris with Khnatsakh and the nearby village of Khoznavar. However, the stretch linking Khnatsakh and Vaghatur remains in severely damaged condition. Plans to begin the full reconstruction of the Khoznavar road were first announced in March 2023 by then-Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan. In April 2025, it was reported that reconstruction of the road serving the border village of Khnatsakh in Syunik was not expected to begin before 2026. Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”. Armenia will loan 2.9 billion drams to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), according to a draft government decision. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has “strongly condemned” Armenia’s decision.
