Prosecutors seek to end Lake Sevan lease![]() July 6, 2026 - 17:04 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Department for the Protection of State Interests at Armenia's Prosecutor General's Office has sent a recommendation to the director of the Sevan National Park state non-commercial organization and the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, calling for measures to terminate a lease agreement signed on October 20, 2004, between the park and Arayik Hayrapetyan for a 3,100-square-meter land plot on the shore of Lake Sevan. The department reviewed the lease agreement and related documents as part of its authority to protect state and community interests. The review found that the lease agreement had been valid until April 8, 2011, but continued to remain in force for an indefinite period after its original term expired. Based on these findings, and in accordance with Article 612(2) of Armenia's Civil Code, which provides that either party to an indefinite-term lease of immovable property may terminate the agreement at any time by giving the other party three months' notice, the Prosecutor General's Office recommended that the Sevan National Park state non-commercial organization take the necessary steps to terminate the lease agreement. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
