Brusov University bribery case sent to prosecutors

PanARMENIAN.Net - The preliminary investigation into a criminal case involving the head of a department at Valery Brusov State University has been completed, and the case has been forwarded to the prosecutor's office with an indictment.

According to Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee, the investigation found evidence that the university official allegedly accepted bribes in exchange for using official authority to provide preferential treatment.

Investigators said the department head arranged for two lecturers from the same department to receive unscheduled leave, redistributed their teaching hours to other lecturers and, in October 2025, allegedly accepted bribes of varying amounts in return.

The investigation also found that the department head allegedly accepted an offer of a bribe from a doctoral student in exchange for facilitating the dissertation defense process and, in December 2025, received a piece of gold jewelry as a bribe.

The department head has been charged under Article 435, Part 2, Clause 3 of Armenia's Criminal Code (three counts), while the three lecturers accused of giving bribes have been charged under Article 436, Part 2, Clause 3. Preventive measures imposed on the department head include a travel ban and suspension from office.

The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the case materials have been sent to the supervising prosecutor together with the indictment for approval and referral to court.

Notice: A person charged with a criminal offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by Armenia's Criminal Procedure Code and by a final court judgment that has entered into legal force.
