EU officials visit Vardenis for environmental project![]() July 16, 2026 - 11:08 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On July 15, Vardenis community head Aharon Khachatryan hosted representatives of the European Union Delegation, including Head of the Cooperation Section Frank Hess, EU4Sevan+ Programme Manager Nils Thevs, and advisers Martin Jaeger and Karapet Ohanyan. The visit aimed to present and discuss the sites selected for implementing decentralized wastewater treatment through nature-based solutions in the Vardenis community, as well as to coordinate the next stages of the project with stakeholders. Khachatryan welcomed the delegation members and thanked them for their visit and productive cooperation, emphasizing that such initiatives have played an important role in the community’s sustainable development, environmental protection, and the preservation of Lake Sevan’s ecosystem. The EU4Sevan+ programme (Efficient Water Resources Management for Sustainable Community Development in Armenia) is aimed at protecting Lake Sevan’s ecosystem and improving water quality. It is co-financed by the European Union and Germany, implemented by GIZ, and coordinated with the Water Committee of the Republic of Armenia. As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed. David Vardanyan is the son of former Karabakh leader Ruben Vardanyan who who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Stephan Schütz, Executive Partner at Gerkan, Marg and Partners. The number of state universities will be reduced from 23 to 8 by 2030, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan has said. Partner news |
