For the first time in history, all Armenian clubs competing in UEFA tournaments have advanced past the opening qualifying stage. Armenian champions Ararat-Armenia defeated Latvia's Riga over two legs in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, advancing despite a 3-2 second-leg defeat after winning the first match 2-0. The Yerevan club will next face Ireland's Shamrock Rovers. In the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round, Pyunik recorded two victories over Malta's Marsaxlokk, winning 3-0 and 1-0, while Alashkert eliminated Kazakhstan's Yelimay on penalties after draws of 1-1 and 2-2, prevailing 6-5 in the shootout, Factor.am reported. Pyunik's next opponent will be Hungary's Debrecen, while Alashkert will meet Romanian side CFR Cluj. Armenian Cup holders Noah will join the competition from the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, where they are scheduled to face Moldova's Zimbru over two legs. Second qualifying round matches in the European competitions are set to begin next week.
