Armenia joins UNESCO heritage session

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's delegation is taking part in the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, being held in Busan, Republic of Korea, according to Armenia's Permanent Delegation to UNESCO.

Speaking during the general debate, Aram Hakobyan, Armenia's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, said that, as a first-time member of the World Heritage Committee, Armenia is ready to cooperate with all interested parties to strengthen the effective implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention.

He praised the efforts of the World Heritage Centre to support states that remain underrepresented on the World Heritage List and emphasized the importance of further strengthening the Centre's institutional capacity.

Referring to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which Armenia will host in October 2026, Hakobyan highly valued the Centre's role in advancing the climate and biodiversity agenda, particularly in strengthening the links between the preservation of cultural and natural heritage and the protection of biodiversity.

The 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) will be held at the Meridian Expo Center in Yerevan from October 18 to 30, 2026.
