Vedi mayor resigns, takes MP mandate

PanARMENIAN.Net - Garik Sargsyan has announced that he is stepping down as head of the Vedi community after deciding to take up a seat in Armenia’s National Assembly.

In a Facebook post, Sargsyan said his team “carried out extensive work in Vedi.”

“If you remember, in the 2021 elections to the city council of the unified Vedi community, I ran under the slogan: ‘Want to improve your homeland? Start with your own community.’ Today, Vedi is developing and flourishing at a rapid pace, providing its residents with a prosperous living environment.

I have decided to accept a mandate as a deputy of Armenia’s National Assembly and am therefore obliged to terminate my mandate as a member of the Vedi city council and, consequently, my powers as head of the community ahead of schedule. I am confident that Vedi is in good hands, and I call on my voters and supporters to continue backing my team, which will steadfastly carry on implementing our unfinished projects.

Believe that, just as before, I will continue to do everything within my abilities to help ensure that my community and my province, as well as every community and region of Armenia, and ultimately our real Armenia, become more peaceful, prosperous and flourishing as soon as possible. My parliamentary mandate will serve exclusively the interests of the Republic of Armenia. Glory to the fallen heroes, and long live the Republic of Armenia,” he wrote.

According to the final election results, the parties entering parliament are: Civil Contract with 64 seats, Strong Armenia with 29 seats, and Hayastan Alliance with 12 seats.
