Armenia approves nuclear unit life-extension report![]() July 23, 2026 - 17:46 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government has approved a report on the progress of measures under the program to extend the operating life of the second power unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. The program includes a total of 103 measures. Under 23 consolidated measures assigned to Rosatom Service, 18 contracts have been signed. Nine were in progress, while work under the other nine contracts has already been completed, Panorama.am reported. To implement 37 consolidated measures under the responsibility of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, 45 procurement procedures were organized. As a result, 36 contracts were signed, with work completed under 17 of them. A framework agreement worth approximately $57.5 million was signed with Rosatom Service in December 2023. As part of the power unit's safety assessment, studies were conducted on the impact of fires, probabilistic safety, existing deviations from current regulatory requirements, and additional measures to improve safety levels. Some of the resulting reports have been submitted to the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee for review. Work under the program for a second extension of the operating life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant's second unit is continuing. Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”. Armenia will loan 2.9 billion drams to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), according to a draft government decision. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has “strongly condemned” Armenia’s decision.
