Kamo Areyan case sent to anti-corruption court

PanARMENIAN.Net - The criminal case against Kamo Areyan, an adviser to the Mayor of Yerevan, has been transferred to Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court and assigned to Judge Sargis Petrosyan, according to information published in the Datalex judicial information system.

Petrosyan previously also presided over the trial of Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan, Sputnik Armenia reported.

According to the indictment, while serving as First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan from July 12, 2003, to July 6, 2009, Areyan allegedly abused his official powers by facilitating the transfer of several state-owned land plots located at the intersection of Azatutyun Avenue and Babayan Street.

Specifically, the prosecution alleges that he abused his official authority during the process of transferring a 6,000-square-meter land plot to the Hayrenik–Spyurk Kamurj non-governmental organization and another 6,000-square-meter land plot to the Saint Lazar healthcare non-governmental organization, causing serious harm to the lawful interests of society and the state.

On July 21, Armenia's Prosecutor General's Office initiated public criminal prosecution against Kamo Areyan.

Within the same criminal proceedings, on April 23, 2026, prosecutors also initiated public criminal prosecution against former Yerevan Mayor Yervand Zakharyan on charges of abusing official authority resulting in serious consequences through negligence.
