Konjoryan addresses attack on brother, to file suit

PanARMENIAN.Net - Hayk Konjoryan, head of the Civil Contract parliamentary faction, said a criminal investigation has been launched into the assault on his brother. He also announced that he would file lawsuits against anyone who attributes to him "false information and defamatory allegations." He made the statement in a Facebook post.

"I would like to offer several clarifications regarding the videos circulated online yesterday and certain comments that followed them.

A criminal investigation has been initiated into the assault on my brother. The matter is now within the jurisdiction of the law enforcement authorities, and I am confident that everyone who committed acts of violence will be held legally accountable.

Any form of violence—whether physical, psychological, or of any other kind—is absolutely unacceptable, regardless of who commits it.

In the Republic of Armenia, the only acceptable way to resolve workplace or interpersonal disputes is through the law and legal procedures. Any unlawful method of settling disputes is condemnable.

All circumstances related to this incident must be assessed solely and exclusively through legal procedures. Certain political speculations seek to link either this incident or various preceding circumstances to me personally, which is impossible because under no circumstances could I become involved in any process that falls outside the principles of the law and the rule of law, regardless of who is on either side of that process. This has always been, and remains, a red line for me.

I will file lawsuits against all those who attribute false information and defamatory statements to me, whether concerning this incident or any other issue related or unrelated to it. Every act of defamation will have legal consequences for those responsible," Konjoryan wrote.

Earlier, it was reported that Avet Konjoryan, the brother of Civil Contract parliamentary faction leader Hayk Konjoryan, had been assaulted. Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against five individuals on charges related to the use of physical violence by a group of persons.
