Rostomyan steps down as basketball federation chief

PanARMENIAN.Net - Hrachya Rostomyan, president of the Basketball Federation of Armenia, has announced that he has stepped down from his position. He made the announcement on his Facebook page.

Rostomyan said that after leading the Basketball Federation of Armenia for 20 years, he was bidding farewell to the post.

"When I took over the federation in 2006, Armenian basketball was in an extremely difficult situation. There were no national teams, no regular championships were being held, and there were no systematic development programs. We effectively started from scratch.

"Over the years, through joint efforts, dedication and perseverance, we succeeded in reviving this wonderful sport in Armenia.

"Today I leave with the conviction that I am handing over a well-established and developing federation, with competitive national teams, numerous age-group championships, international cooperation and, most importantly, a team of highly qualified professionals dedicated to their work.

"This journey would not have been possible without everyone who stood by us throughout these years," he wrote.

Rostomyan expressed gratitude to the athletes, coaches, referees, clubs, members of the executive committee, partners, sponsors and everyone who contributed to the development of basketball in Armenia.

"I wish Armenian basketball continued growth, success and the opportunity to represent Armenia with dignity on the international stage," Rostomyan said in his message.
