Karabakh conflict may be resolved based on people's right to self-determination

PanARMENIAN.Net - "No President will act against his people's interests," RPA parliamentarian Gagik Melikyan told a news conference in Yerevan, touching upon Azeri President's statement on Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.

As noted by the speaker, Armenia defined its position long ago, declaring the nation's right to self-determination as the only way of conflict settlement. Aliyev will never make any statement in favor of Armenia as it will contradict his people's interests, the speaker noted, adding at the same time that during international negotiations, Azeri President acted in support of settling NKR conflict based on the above principle.

Touching upon the issue of the so-called "occupied" territories, Melikyan said, "The important thing for Armenia is NKR security. Those territories are a security zone and borderline between Karabakh and Armenia. No compromise will be possible unless Azeri side proposes an adequate alternative ensuring NKR people's security," Armenian parliamentarian stressed.
