Army's accession to power in Turkey may repeat itself

PanARMENIAN.Net - Exposure of Ergenekon ultranationalist shadow organization and legal procedure against its representatives is one of the most significant events in Turkey's modern history, Noravank Scientific Educational Center expert, turkologist Ruben Melkonyan told a news conference in Yerevan.

"Experts note that Ergenekon is a "deep-water state" through which Turkey's policy is implemented. On the other side, organization's activities can be characterized as a struggle between Islamites and high-society power supporters," the expert emphasized.

According to Ruben Melkonyan, Ergenekon aims to stir up chaos in Turkey to enable army's accession to power as a result.

When questioned by PanARMENIAN.Net reporter on the impact of Ergenekon issue upon Turkey's eurointegration process, Ruben Melkonyan replied that to join EU, Turkey has to exclude army's participation in state policy.
