Vahagn Chakhalyan transferred to a colony of strict regime

PanARMENIAN.Net - Javahk political activist Vahagn Chakhalyan , who on July 31 this year was transferred from the Gldaniysk prison № 8, Tbilisi to the colony № 2, Rustavi, on August 21 was again transferred, this time in a strict regime colony № 6 in Rustavi.



As PanARMENIAN.Net was informed by the Yerkir Union of repatriation and development organizations, the Georgian authorities instead of ensuring the safety of Javakhk political activist, subject him to a greater risk by moving him into an institution jailed persons for hard and particularly violent crimes.



"By strengthening both direct and indirect pressures on Chakhalyan, the Georgian authorities hope to break his determination to continue the court fight, since the judicial process more and more reveal a completely fabricated character of the criminal case.



The Yerkir Union calls upon the Georgian authorities to immediately cease pressure on Chakhalyan and guarantee his security by moving him to the initial place of imprisonment, Gldaniysk prison number 8 and keeping there by the end of the appeals process (including in higher courts).



The Yerkir Union requests the Public Defender of Georgia, diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia, international human rights organizations to take effective measures to immediately halt a new round of pressure by Georgian authorities against Javakhk political activist and ensure his security," the statement of the Yerkir Union says.
