FRENCH PRESIDENT JACQUES CHIRAC STATES ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
FACT CANNOT BE CONTESTED

PanARMENIAN.Net - On the eve of the coming presidential elections in France the organizations of the country Armenian community addressed questions to the two main candidates - acting President Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister Lionel Jospin - regarding their attitude towards the attempts to deny the fact of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, as well as the blockade against Armenia held by Turkey. The other day the leader of the French branch of Ramkavar-Azatakan party received Jacques Chirac's response letter, in which he answers the questions. The French President writes that in January 2001 the country parliament passed a special law condemning the Armenian Genocide committed in Ottoman Turkey. He wished the other countries followed France's example, too. «The fact of the genocide cannot be contested. One of the most ferocious crimes of the last century is the point, and revision of history is inadmissible. Thus reconciliation can be achieved only resting on facts," - Jacques Chirac notes. Concerning the blockade of Armenia, Chirac noted that the fact gave rise to serious uneasiness in Europe. In his words, the blockade hampers the entire region's development. The President assured he would continue making efforts to establish peace in the region.
