Armenia: Agricultural damage from hail grossed AMD 13.5 billion in 2009December 8, 2009 - 19:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Over 2009, 270 Armenian communities suffered agricultural damages from hail, resulting in the loss of 10-90% of harvest. Damages were assessed at AMD 12.5 -13.5 billion, Samvel Galstyan, Vice Minister of Agriculture said.As the Vice Minister noted at today's news conference, 2009's grain crops were decreased by 50 000 tons compared with 2008, totaling 361.5 thousand tons. Samvel Galstyan briefed the news conference on agriculture support programs' implementation, especially noting that 15 hail suppression stations, set up in 12 Armenian communities, were of significant help in fighting difficult weather conditions.
