OFFICE OF PROSECUTOR GENERAL DENIED REPORTS ON FILING CRIMINAL SUITS AGAINST VAZGEN SARGSIAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia has denied reports in the Republic mass media that two criminal suits were filed against former Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsian, who was killed as a result of the terrorist act in the Armenian Parliament in October 1999. According to the information provided to "Arminfo" agency in the Prosecutor General press office, no criminal suits are filed against Vazgen Sargsian. The Prosecutor General Office staff supposes that an incident, which took place June 21, 1995 in Yerevan Botanical Gardens, could serve as a basis for speculations on this topic. Former Chief of the Department of execution of criminal penalties of the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Internal Affairs Mushegh Saghatelian "distinguished himself" there, against whom a charge of exceeding his commission is brought. Former member of the Central Electoral Commission Vova Hakhverdian, who was interrogated within the framework of the same case as a witness, stated that after the presidential elections September 26, 1996 he underwent violence not by Mushegh Saghatelian, but Vazgen Sargsian and his bodyguard Movses Geghangulian. But the Office of the Prosecutor General has not discovered any strong evidence of this statement.
