Eduard Sharmazanov: U.S. State Department’s report is incomplete

PanARMENIAN.Net - "To some extent I agree with the assessments made in the U.S. State Department’s report on the situation with human rights in Armenia, but in general the report is incomplete," Eduard Sharmazanov , Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group secretary told journalists at the National Assembly of Armenia.

According Sharmazanov, there are problems with human rights, corruption and democracy in Armenia, like in any other country, this is not news. " The report is incomplete since it does not cover all the facts reflecting the development of democracy and human rights in Armenia. A good example of that omission is the amnesty declared by the Armenian president, establishment of the Public Council and the ongoing reforms in the police system," he said.

“The United States must first monitor the activities of their country in the world, and then write reports about other countries,” Gagik Tsarukyan, head of the Prosperous Armenia parliamentary group said.

On 12 March 2010 the U.S. State Department issued a report on the development of human rights in the world. The reports criticized the Armenian authorities for exerting pressure on the media and human rights non-compliance.
