RPA: Armenia doesn't aim to resolve Karabakh conflict at any cost![]() March 26, 2010 - 14:47 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Baku's refusal to sign an agreement on non-use of force proved its reluctance to a constructive resolution of Karabakh conflict, an Armenian official said."Armenia's position remains unchanged: it will never agree to unilateral concessions. Nagorno Karabakh can't be a part of Azerbaijan. Compromise is possible only if Azerbaijan and the international community recognize NKR as an independent state. Armenia doesn't aim to resolve Karabakh conflict at any cost," Eduard Sharmazanov, secretary of RPA parliamentary group, told reporters on Friday. As to RA President's recent statement on possibility of transfer of NKR security area regions, he said the people of Artsakh will themselves decide on the scope of compromise. Dwelling on domestic situation, Mr. Sharmazanov said he sees no reason for early elections. ![]() ![]() The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
