However, there is a considerable progress in the settlement process, which is not in a standstill, Mr. Stanevsky told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. Referring to NKR’s participation in the negotiations process, he said that the issue is being considered currently but refrained from making any forecast on the final decision. Commenting on Turkey’s activity in the regional processes, the Russian expert said: “Ankara is no less than Yerevan interested in resolution of century-old conflicts and alleviation of tensions between the Armenian and Turkish nations.” According to him, Turkey is interested in the soonest resolution of the Karabakh conflict. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
