Armen Harutyunyan: right to healthy ecological environment is violated in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan said that the attitude towards environment reflects the internal essence of civilization. “If we form an opinion about ourselves, judging from Armenia’s nature, this estimation will be rather negative,” Mr. Harutyunyan told journalists on May 25.

Answering the question whether he sees any changes in solving the ecological problems after publication of his reports, the Ombudsman said that serious improvements are not observed.

“I do not see any serious attitude towards the issues raised by me in the field of ecology,” he said.

Mr. Harutyunyan added that the right to healthy ecological environment is endangered. “We do not need an official answer - we can have a walk around the city to see everything. We face similar problems both in Yerevan and outside it, for example, around Lake Sevan,” the Ombudsman said.
