Recently, passions ran high between Turkey and Israel but now both countries try to alleviate tensions. The problem is that Turks and Israelis hate each other and this hatred persists,” he told reporters in Yerevan on June 12. Melik-Shahnazaryan did not rule out that the Armenian Genocide issue may become a sword of Damocles over Turkey. “All those countries which recognized the Armenian Genocide actually aimed to settle their affairs with Turkey,” he said. The expert noted that the Gaza incident distracted Ankara’s attention from the Karabakh conflict and caused new disagreements between Turkey and Azerbaijan, the latter unwilling to worsen relations with Israel. “Israel incites Turkish Kurds to new rebellion and subversive acts against the Turkish army, what is very dangerous for Armenia,” Melik-Shahnazaryan concluded. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult.
