Seyed Ali Saghaeyan: incident at NKR-Azeri contact line provocation from outsideJune 23, 2010 - 13:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Ali Saghaeyan labeled the recent incident at the contact line of the Karabakh and Azeri armed forces as a ‘provocation from outside’. “We are extending our condolences to the families of those killed,” he said during a news conference in Yerevan on June 23. Stating that any conflict should be resolved peacefully, the Ambassador ruled out resumption of hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh. As to religious coloring Azerbaijan tries to attach to the conflict, he said that Iran always opposed to it in the framework of the Organization of Islamic Conference. Touching on possibility of deployment of international peacekeepers in Karabakh conflict zone, the diplomat emphasized that ‘Iran will foil U.S. plans to station a base in Fizuli’. “Iran is the only country which borders to Karabakh conflict zone, so this is an issue of security for us,” he said. Amb. Saghaeyan also noted that Iran can contribute to resolution of Karabakh conflict, given Tehran’s close contacts with all countries of the region. Commenting on the UN Security Council resolution to impose new sanctions on Iran, he said that ‘such sanctions even helped consolidation of the Iranian nation during the past 30 years’. “New sanctions will not limit Iran’s development and its peaceful nuclear program,” he said.
