Should Russia wish to station peacekeepers in Karabakh, it would have done so long ago

PanARMENIAN.Net - Any agreement between U.S. President Barack Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoghan with respect to the Karabakh conflict settlement and all the more the transfer of Fizuli and Kelbajar to Azerbaijan are out of question.

Besides, the scenario of deployment of American and Russian peacekeepers in the Karabakh conflict zone is just impracticable, a high-ranking official in Moscow told PanARMENIAN.Net on condition of anonymity.

“Those, who disseminate such information quoting some “sources in European intelligence,” act unwisely and to the detriment of Armenia, Russia and peaceful resolution of Karabakh conflict. Russia’s position has been unchanged for many years: the conflict should be settled by Armenians and Azerbaijanis through peaceful means,” the source said.

He went on saying that should Russia wish to station peacekeepers in the Karabakh conflict zone, it would have done so long ago. “I think that Armenia even would not mind it. Meanwhile, Tehran will categorically hamper a hypothetic deployment of American troops in Fizuli, which borders on Iran,” the source said.

Earlier in the day, the FAAE quoted some European intelligence sources as saying that “Russian and U.S. Presidents agreed to provoke armed incidents at the contact line of Artsakh and Azeri armed forces to be transformed into a blitzkrieg and then stopped by the superpowers, with further deployment of American and Russian peacekeepers in Fizuli and Kelbajar respectively.”
