UK supports Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process

PanARMENIAN.Net - The UK continues supporting normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.

“We understand that the process brought some disappointment but we believe that its continuation proceeds from interests of the entire region,” UK Ambassador to Armenia Charles Lonsdale told journalists on June 28. “We hail the progress that had been registered thanks to the initiative of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and think that these achievements must not be lost.”

Commenting on Armenian Genocide recognition by the UK, Ambassador Lonsdale noted that it’s an issue of parliamentary discussions while the government’s position remains unchanged.

“We mourn over the sufferings that befell the Armenian nation in the beginning of the 20th century. Nevertheless, Armenia and Turkey should seek to normalize relations, without forgetting the past.
