Number of minibuses to reduce by 50% in Yerevan within two years

PanARMENIAN.Net - Chairman of the Armenian Association of Consumers Armen Poghosyan said that the number of minibuses will reduce by 50% in Yerevan within two years, as per the agreement between the Association and Office of Yerevan Mayor.

“Currently, minibuses make 90% of the public transport,” Poghosyan told journalists in Yerevan.

“A scientific group was formed to provide a plan for the further transport development in Yerevan,” noted Poghosyan. Minibuses are planned to be substituted by 100 new buses, which should be imported to Armenia from China soon.

The expert considers electric transport to be the optimal way for the public transport development in Yerevan.

“New underground station was planned to be constructed in 1974. However, the project wasn’t implemented. Construction cost totals $4-5mln/1km, while $120mln are planned to be spent for roads repair,” Poghosyan concluded.
