Negotiations on Association Agreement with EU open in YerevanJuly 19, 2010 - 15:17 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The first round of negotiations on an Association Agreement with the European Union opened in Yerevan on July 19. “The talks will help strengthen political and economic relations with the EU and develop democracy in Armenia,” said Karine Kazinian, RA Deputy Foreign Minister. The negotiations will cover political dialogue and cooperation on foreign and security policy, Justice, Freedom and Security issues, cooperation in specific sectors, people-to-people contacts and trade. For his part, Gunnar Wiegand, European Commission’s Director for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, noted that it’s an ambitious and promising program. “This is a historical event which reflects EU strategic interests for establishment of peace and stability in the South Caucasus,” he said.
