EU TO ALLOCATE 100 MILLION EUROS TO CLOSE ARMENIAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Union will assign 100 million euros to close the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). Director of European Commission department of external relations Hugues Mingarelli told journalists in Yerevan today. In his words, the EU continues insisting on the need of the soonest closing of the Armenian NPP and in the near future intends to hold a conference of donor-states devoted to carrying out the task. According to "Arka" agency, as reported by H. Mingarelli, at present EU experts are conducting investigations to discover alternative energy sources in Armenia. The results of the research, in his words, will be presented to the government. At the same time H. Mingarelli did not rule out that the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline could be that resource. In his turn, minister of trade and economic development of Armenia Karen Chshmaritian stated the Armenian authorities hold the position that the atomic station should function until the republic is provided with alternative energy sources.
