Arman Melikyan: Armenia is a bad copy of Russia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian president’s visit to Armenia and CSTO informal summit in Yerevan prove there are new processes going on in the region, according to former NKR foreign minister Arman Melikyan.

Dwelling on Russian military base’s deployment term in Armenia, Arman Melikyan pointed out that while Armenia remains the stronghold of anti-Turkish moods in the region, it is in the interest of a number of states, including Russia, to have a military base-related agreement.

As he told a news conference in Yerevan, Armenia is not ready to take anti-Turkish moods to a new level, being a bad copy of Russia, which has regional interests yet no specific ideology. “Russia’s future in this context is unclear. We can sign an agreement with one Moscow today and have to deal with a different one in 5 years,” Arman Melikyan noted.

As he stressed, extension of military base deployment contract spells Russia’s long-term goals in Armenia.
