Ropeway leading to Tatev monastery to be tested in mid-September

PanARMENIAN.Net - Head of the Public Affairs Department of the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia Zara Amatuni said that the ropeway leading to Tatev monastery will be tested in mid-September.

The ropeway construction is completed, Amatuni told journalists, adding that currently tree planting is planned jointly with Armenia Tree Project NGO. Besides, parking lots are constructed there.

According to Amatuni, the ropeway fare has not been calculated yet.

The 5.7km-long ropeway will become the longest passenger airway with maximum speed of 37km/hour. Previously, the 4km-long bidirectional ropeway in Santa-Fe (the U.S.) was the longest one in the world. The ropeway is constructed by Garaventa company (Switzerland.) The construction was launched in 2009, with $13mln spent for the project implementation. The opening ceremony of the ropeway will be held on October 16.
