  ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF SULEYMAN DEMIREL PREVENTEDAugust 17, 2001 - 23:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish police foiled the plan to kill former President of the country Suleyman Demirel. According to the information provided by «Sabah» Turkish newspaper, in course of the joint action in the capital the police and special service of Turkey arrested 16 armed members of «Front - Revolutionary Popular Liberation Party» extreme left underground organization. The police contends that this illegal organization was preparing assassinations of Minister of Justice Hikmet Sami Turk and former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Sahadetdin Tantan. Series of bloody crimes against Turkish generals and members of the Cabinet of Ministers were connected with the name of the «Front» in the ninth decade.
