Government’s initiative on establishment of foreign language schools in Armenia to be revisedSeptember 27, 2010 - 18:12 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Affairs organized hearings on a bill submitted by the RA government on introduction of amendments to the RA Laws on Language and Education with participation of Armenian Minister of Science and Education Armen Ashotyan, parliament members and representatives of the public sector. Speaker of the Armenian parliament Hovik Abrahamyan said that even under conditions of globalization the general education should be organized on the national basis. Taking into consideration the expressed pluralism over implementation of foreign language educational programs and aspiration to form a national mentality, Hovik Abrahamyan offered to revise the bill submitted by the government to the RA National Assembly. “The matter should be regulated only through introduction of amendments to the RA Law on Education, fixing “alternative educational programs,” “authors’ educational programs” and “international educational programs” notions in it,” said Abrahamyan. He added that education under international and alternative programs should be built on the national basis. “In my opinion, it will create new opportunities for the Armenian Diaspora’s representatives to get education in their Fatherland,” concluded Hovik Abrahamyan.
